I love old Italian movies, especially how the women appeared: strong, sexy, and confident. I had them in mind when I was drawing my beach girl: big sunglasses, strapless one-piece suit, a ladylike pose and a sexy smile. The words la vita è bella ("Life is Beautiful") seemed like the perfect phrase to accompany it.
